Point de vue
“Peace be with you. I am Sidi Ali ou Amar; my body lies up the slope north of this village, under white plaster, and my name is on the tomb so nobody forgets to greet me. For a long time I watched the caravans come up from the Sahara with salt and go down to…”

This month: October is the gentlest month, cool mornings, warm middays, the valley calm. This is when I stop suspecting visitors quite so much.
When to go: Early morning or after 5pm - the lanes are cool at dawn and the summit has no shade at midday; late light turns the whole ksar gold from the granary.
Aït Benhaddou rewards feet, not wheels. The ksar sits across a riverbed, its mud-built lanes climbing past fortified family houses and a small museum kasbah toward a ruined granary and a summit view of the whole valley. A bus can only show you the outline from a distance; walking the lanes is the only way to feel how the village actually rises, layer on layer, from river to ridge.
Walk & Tell turns this climb into a self-guided audio walk narrated by Sidi Ali ou Amar, the marabout whose tomb still stands on the slope above the village. GPS triggers his story as you pass each stop, from gate to grave, with no need to read a map. The walk runs about 36 minutes over 1.4 km, is free to try, and downloads for offline use — good for a first visit, a spare morning, or anyone travelling solo or as a couple who'd rather listen than read plaques.
