a slow, dry mountain woodsman, fond of water and suspicious of visitors, warming as the day goes on
My name is Jernej. I cut wood in this valley for forty winters, and I never once paid for a drink of water. Today you will walk from the place where the river is born to the place where it sings, and I will talk the whole way. Do not hurry: the valley does not. Come on — the water is already ahead of us.

Best time to walk: Morning, any season but deep winter. The valley road is cool and shaded; after heavy rain the gorge paths are slippery and the waterfall is loudest.
You’re walking this one before anyone at Walk & Tell has. If something looks wrong, tap Report at any stop — we’ll fix it for everyone after you.
Kamniška Bistrica is a steep green valley under the Kamnik Alps, where a river is born fully grown out of the rock. This is a story walk: no puzzles, just a voice beside you from the days when this valley was logs, charcoal and hunting lodges. It runs as one line down and across the valley floor, from the springs to the gorge to the waterfall called Orglice. The candidate places here are few and far apart, so the walk has six stops rather than nine — in a valley, the walking itself is the content.

A fictional log-driver and charcoal burner of Kamniška Bistrica, written from the documented working life of this valley: timber, water and hunting paths.
1868–1941
Jernej is an invented character, stated here as fiction. He stands for the men who worked the Kamniška Bistrica valley before the road was paved: felling spruce on the slopes, burning charcoal, and sending logs down the river to the mills at Kamnik. He knows the springs, the gorge and the waterfall as workplaces, not as sights. Everything he says about the valley's trades and terrain is drawn from what the places are and how such work was done here.
Jernej is a character created for this game.
